The Methodological Guidelines for Student Self-Study of the Lecture Course “Social Aspects of Language and Speech” contain the theoretical bank for progressive self-study tasks’ completion, which presupposes mastering the basics of sociolinguistic science and their reinforcement through an array of checking exercises. The theoretical bank in question embraces the issues of the status and object of Sociolinguistics as a science, its core concepts, theories and hypotheses, linguistic variation, its types and social loading, social and regional dialects of English, co-existence of speech communities and their mutual interference, types of individual bilingualism, social nature of language and speech norms, gender aspects of communication etc.
